How should I clean MDF shutters?

For general maintenance, regular dusting with a microfibre cloth is all that’s needed. If there are marks you need to remove, you can use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap. Dry after cleaning and avoid soaking or abrasive cleaners.

MDF shutters are made from Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF), an engineered wood product. They’re finished with a smooth coating (typically painted) and are a popular option for achieving a clean, classic shutter look at a more affordable price.

In normal indoor use (living rooms, bedrooms, hallways), MDF shutters are durable and long-lasting. They’re designed for everyday opening/closing and louvre adjustment when properly installed and cared for.

No. Generally, MDF shutters are best for dry to moderately humid rooms. In very humid bathrooms or areas prone to splashes/condensation, MDF can absorb moisture over time, which may lead to swelling or finish damage. For high-moisture areas, a waterproof material (like ABS) is usually the better choice.

Dry, lived-in rooms like bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and offices.
